Visible Ink Writing Group

    who?
Visible Ink is a friendly and informal writers’ group based in Edinburgh. We’ve been running for over 10 years and welcome all writers, whether you’re just starting out or an old hand, whether you write for fun or for publication, whatever you write: fact or fiction, long or short, poetry or prose, song or drama.

    Why?
    Because it's there
Because we can
Because we want to
Because we have to
Why not?

No matter what you want to get out of your writing, Visible Ink can provide feedback and positive encouragement.

    what?
Visible Ink's sessions generally consist of two parts: readings and the "stimulus session".

Readings are exactly what it says on the tin - members bring in pieces which they're working on to read out and receive constructive feedback from the rest of the group.  If you'd prefer, you can take along copies for people to read, and if you're writing a play or other script, we'll even have a go at acting it out (but there's no danger of any Oscar wins for the group any time soon!)

The stimulus session is simply an exercise in writing on the spot.  Everyone writes on a particular theme, or chooses from a choice of themes.  The theme for the stimulus session may be a piece of writing, a first line, a combination of nouns and verbs, a picture or an object.  We are always open to new ideas for stimulating our writing - bring something along if you wish.  Members usually read out the piece of writing that results from the stimulus session but there is never any obligation to do so, or indeed to write anything at all, or even to stick with the theme if your creative impulse takes you somewhere completely different.
